What a great opportunity to interview Dr. Kass. It was really nice of him to take time out of his day and answer a few questions for me. I gained a lot of knowledge and learned some things that I really didn’t expect to learn. Coming from a fellow Business Management major/professor I got answers about the world or management and how things work. What I came away with from this interview will certainty come a long way in my future and career as a business manager.
The first question I asked Dr. Kass was “For what purposes do you write”? He replied with the answer as a professor he writes to inform students about the current topic he is teaching. Also he makes up real world examples that could happen in the business world. He said the purpose on business writing is to request and share information. Everything in business needs to be concise, and one-hundred percent accurate. He says that people can make up all the statistics they want but if it isn’t accurate the data means nothing.
As our interview progressed I asked another question “what do you get out of the writing you do?” Dr. Kass said he gets a lot out of writing that he does either exchanging emails with a fellow professor or students or writing up the lesson for class. Business changes every day and a part of his lesson changes due to the change in business he needs to switch it up and make something new. With this you learn the changes in the past and see how the affect the future, also it can help you with possibly predicting future changes. The audiences he writes for are usually he students and colleagues.
The research article that he recommended to me was Strategy and Leadership. He said you always want to be a leader and have the right strategies to do so. In the article it says that everything in business happens so quickly, you need to adapt with and be positive when things go wrong. Not everything will go your way but when it does you need to be a good positive leader and work through the troubles together. This interview with Dr. Kass was a short one and I wish it could have been longer. With the time I had with him I gained a wonderful amount of business advice. Professors like Dr. Kass really enjoy what they do and always want to help young students that aspire to be a great mind in the business world. He wants to teach students to be great leaders. If I ever need advice or have any problems with the rest of my college experience I will definitely be going back to Dr. Kass because he truly put a different perspective in my head about business. He made me realize that business is the best choice for me to pursue and I am glad I got the time to speak with an incredible individual.
